Re-enactors get insight into 15th century weaponry

Paston Heritage Society re-enactors met with Steve and Jo Parish and Irene of Past Alive at Bacton Village Hall on 24 October – and were treated to a real insight into the 15th century. They were particularly fascinated by weapons that were used at the time: Poleaxe, Longbow, Crossbow, Dagger, Sword and Buckle, Arquebus...

Steve Parish also explained that the whole population was normally well armed and ready to fight against invasion – which explains Margaret Paston’s nonchalance about asking for Poleaxes in her letter to John. Fear of the plague also made the prevalence of rosaries and religious devotions unsurprising..
